But if you don’t have any hemorrhoid cream at home, and there’s no one to run to the pharmacy to get some for you when you need it the most. Thankfully, according to many colloidal silver users, there are three different ways to use colloidal silver to clear up a mild to moderate case of hemorrhoids.
Yikes! Nobody likes hemorrhoids, which are often called “piles” due to the protruding inflammation so common to the condition.
The discomfort from the enlargement of rectal tissues, combined with the pain and itching (and sometimes bleeding), can border on misery. And when a hemorrhoid doesn’t clear up on its own, the thought of a doctor surgically removing it can be…well… quite harrowing and nerve-wracking, to say the least.
Over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams work pretty well to tame the flame and help bring down the swelling of hemorrhoids.
Always check with your doctor first, of course. But here’s a quick look at what people are saying has worked for them…
A lot of people have told me they use a good commercial colloidal silver gel or colloidal silver cream for hemorrhoids (aka “piles”), particularly when over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams aren’t available.
Others have told me they make their own colloidal silver gel or cream (see below for more details) and use it when they have hemorrhoids or other problematic skin conditions.
In either case, they simply apply the colloidal silver gel or cream directly to the inflamed area, several times a day, just as you’d use a commercial hemorrhoid cream.
Reducing Inflammation
Silver has been shown repeatedly to soothe and heal a wide variety of skin conditions and wounds – google image
Silver, of course, has been shown repeatedly to soothe and heal a wide variety of skin conditions and wounds (see here and here for numerous examples).
But what many people don’t know is that silver has also been demonstrated to reduce inflammation such as that associated with wounds, various skin conditions and infections.
Indeed, in one clinical study, researchers demonstrated that silver nanoparticles have the ability to reduce what’s referred to as “excessive cytokine expression,” and thus reduce unwanted inflammation that often gets in the way of healing.
This is important news, because cytokines are signaling molecules in the body that tell the immune system to send white blood cells and other infection-fighters to the site of a wound or related problem. This can cause mild inflammation, which is a normal part of healing.
But…in some cases, the pro-inflammatory effects of cytokine expression can get “stuck” in high gear, so to speak. The result can be excessive unwanted inflammation that actually becomes a roadblock to the healing process – such as in the case of chronic hemorrhoids.
Indeed, experts say excessive cytokine expression can be a real problem in chronic hemorrhoids, which is to say, hemorrhoids lasting more than two or three days.
As one website for a commercial, over-the-counter hemorrhoid product states:
“Multiple anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory cytokines are liberated on the piles surface, with a shift over time towards the predominance of pro-inflammatory cytokines, leading to a persisting condition.
Therefore, an ideal hemorrhoid treatment should neutralize the pro-inflammatory cytokines and reduce the edema“ [i.e. the swelling/inflammation – ED].
In other words, the best way to treat piles (i.e., hemorrhoids) is to do something to help stop the excessive inflammation caused by pro-inflammatory cytokine expression.
That’s fascinating, because, as the research cited earlier has shown, that’s exactly what antimicrobial silver does.
Indeed, researchers have demonstrated that in such cases, antimicrobial silver has a modulating (or calming) effect on cytokine expression, resulting in both reduced inflammation and increased speed of healing.
According to the authors of the above-mentioned study:
“It has been shown in vivo that silver nanoparticles act to decrease inflammation through cytokine modulation”
What’s more, the study authors concluded, “These experimental data suggest that nano-silver could be used to treat immunologic and inflammatory diseases.”
Here’s an excerpt from an article summarizing the results of the study:
“Silver has for centuries been used to treat and prevent infection, and its wound-healing properties are well known…
…But the new research…indicates that silver goes further than this and modifies cytokines – the enzymes involved in cell growth and movement – leading to reduced inflammation and an increased rate of healing.”
That’s precisely what’s often needed when hemorrhoids erupt and won’t go away on their own.
3 Ways People Are Using Colloidal Silver
To Help Their Body Heal Hemorrhoids
There are three basic ways colloidal silver can be used to help the body heal hemorrhoids:
1.) Application of a topical colloidal silver gel
2.) Application of a bath cloth soaked in liquid colloidal silver
3.) Colloidal silver used in a “sitz bath.”
Here are the details for each:
Topical Colloidal Silver Gel
You can always purchase a good commercial colloidal silver gel, such as ASAP Ultimate Skin & Body Care Gel (contains 24 ppm colloidal silver), which is usually available relatively inexpensively on Amazon.com or at SwansonVitamins.com.
You can learn about other good, widely available commercial colloidal silver gels and creams in the article, Germ-Busting Colloidal Silver Gels and Creams.
Caveat: While the manufacturers of such products do not market them for use in place of over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams, anecdotal accounts demonstrate that they do indeed work just as well or even better.
The colloidal silver gel is preferred for hemorrhoids over purely liquid colloidal silver products, because the gel tends to keep the silver in touch with the affected area longer than simply applying liquid colloidal silver can.
Most ardent colloidal silver users I know make their own colloidal silver gel by mixing liquid colloidal silver into a pure aloe vera gel product.
To learn one of the easiest ways to make your own topical colloidal silver gel, instead of buying commercial colloidal silver gels, see this short video titled Making Your Own Colloidal Silver Gel and Colloidal Silver Soap.
Or, read further to learn how one reader solved her hemorrhoid problems by making her own colloidal silver gel using a hand-held blender.
If you can’t afford a good commercial colloidal silver gel or cream, or don’t want to take the time to make your own, there are still two more options you can try, which many people claim have worked wonders for them:
Bath Cloth Soaked in Colloidal Silver
One, you can soak a bath cloth in 10 ppm or higher colloidal silver, and apply it topically while soaking wet to the inflamed rectal area, leaving it on for 15 or 20 minutes at a time, three or four times a day to obtain relief from the swollen tissues.
“Sitz Bath” Technique
Or, two, you can use a colloidal silver “sitz bath.”
That’s where you fill a small pot called a “sitz pot” (usually available in drug stores) with warm water. The small pot actually fits over your toilet bowl. You then sit on it, allowing the affected area of the rectum to be submerged into the soothing warm water.
But here’s the key: Most people tell me that for hemorrhoids, they add four or five ounces of colloidal silver to the sitz bath water in order to increase the rate of healing.
But based on anecdotal accounts, a good colloidal silver gel or cream seems to work best. Again, that’s because the gel (or cream) tends to keep the silver in direct touch with affected area of the skin much longer than you could using either of the two alternative methods described above.
How One Intrepid Colloidal Silver User Solved Her Hemorrhoid Problems
Mix colloidal silver with Aloe Vera gel – google image
I poured equal parts 20 ppm colloidal silver and 100 percent Aloe Vera Gel into a bowl (1/4 cup of each), mixed it together with an electric handheld blender and began applying it as an antiseptic ointment to cuts, scratches and insect bites.
Because I have several grandchildren who spend time with me during the summer, it wasn’t long before my first batch was gone.
I used it on my feet twice daily for two weeks. Then one of life’s interruptions occurred and I had to leave my home for a few weeks. I forgot to take the gel with me and so was forced to stop the daily application.
Mentally preoccupied with the interruption, it was nearly a month before I noticed my feet as I was taking my socks off one day. Where they had been rough, with deep, often bleeding, cracks in the heels, they were now soft and smooth.
Even though I was back home by now, I hadn’t started applying the gel daily again so what I was seeing was a residual effect.
As I sat there staring at my feet in awe, I realized that I couldn’t even remember the last time they’d itched, which had been a daily problem before. And there were no signs of the red bumps and little blisters that so often accompany athlete’s foot.
Myfeet, in fact, looked as if I’d never experienced the problem at all, and this after 20 years of fighting it and after having only applied the gel for two weeks and no longer.
It has been a year now since I was troubled with athlete’s foot. I never have to apply the gel anymore because there are never any signs of the athlete’s foot fungus returning. My feet are still smooth, soft and wonderfully itch-free.
Delighted with the outcome, I decided to start experimenting using the gel on other things.
I began applying it every morning after washing my face and discovered that it worked wonderfully well, not only leaving my skin soft and fresh feeling, but also putting an abrupt end to those little acne flare-ups that sometimes happen no matter how old we get.
I also began using it as a deodorant, too, and realized I’d never had a better one. Not only did it leave me feeling fresh all day long, even if I forgot to apply it, there was no problem with odor. Like when I applied the gel to my feet, it seemed to have a residual effect as a deodorant, too.
When I was bothered by hemorrhoids, I decided to try the colloidal silver gel and noticed almost instant relief.”
Another woman wrote in to explain how her daughter, who had just given birth to her first child at home, was using colloidal silver during and after the birthing process. In part, she wrote:
“My daughter also used plenty of colloidal silver in the water of the birthing pool, and after the birth of the baby for the cord…and later for the treatment of the baby’s umbilical area, and for washing the baby.
She continues to use colloidal silver for the baby, from umbilical care to skin rashes. It works like a charm.
She also used it for personal care and cleaning, and says it worked WONDERS for hemorrhoids.”
Interestingly, a 2009 clinical white paper by J. Wesley Alexander, published in the journal Surgical Infections, and titled History of the Medical Use of Silver, states that, historically speaking, silver has been used for the treatment of conditions such as “hemorrhoids, dandruff, and warts.”
The author of the white paper is careful to note that no clinical medical evidence exists for the use of silver for those particular health conditions. Yet in spite of the lack of clinical evidence, silver has nevertheless gained a reputation as a reliable treatment for those conditions.
And why isn’t there any clinical medical evidence to support the use of colloidal silver for hemorrhoids, dandruff and warts?
I don’t know. You’d think by now medical science would catch on to what experienced colloidal silver users have known for decades.
But unfortunately, medical science is so often wrapped up in attempting to create novel, or new medications that can be patented and monopolized, it misses what’s been right in front of its nose all along.
The bottom line is that experienced colloidal silver users know it works to heal the pain, itching and inflammation associated with hemorrhoids and other skin conditions. And now you know it, too!
